Congregation Spotlight – St. John Neumann

jackie, November 29, 2018

St. John Neumann is a leading sustainable congregation in Northern Virginia! Their Care for Our Common Home ministry has had significant impact in both their congregation and the community.

They were certified as a “cool congregation” based on their reduction in energy consumption and carbon emissions (28% reduction in energy use and a 29% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions). They have worked to cut down on paper and plastic products by using reusable plates, cups, and cutlery at church functions. They are working to add gardens and green space to their property as well as develop sustainable ways to maintain this green space. They also sponsor an Adopt-A-Highway area and have quarterly clean ups.

St. John Neumann’s commitment to their congregation and the greater community has allowed them to set an example that has lasting impact on all that come in contact with their congregation.
