This week, we asked the candidate for Virginia’s 11th Congressional District to describe his plans to protect creation.  The candidate (and Democratic incumbent) is Gerry Connolly, who runs unopposed this election season.

We asked Congressman Connolly to respond to this question:

People of faith value stewardship of the earth and compassion for those who will inherit it. What are your plans to protect creation and young people from climate change and other environmental issues?

Gerry Connolly’s answer:

“For my entire career I’ve been proud to push for strong environmental protections and a move us towards a more sustainable future. As Chairman of Fairfax County, we launched the County’s first comprehensive environmental plan with a goal to reduce our carbon footprint at the local level. In Congress, I co-founded the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, the second-largest Democratic Caucus, and have been a leading advocate for  investing in clean, renewable energy and green jobs, and curbing green house gas emissions.”

Please vote this election day.

And please remember: we may not agree with each other, but we do love each other.  Let’s keep our faiths front and center, and approach this election with civility.

The 10th district encompasses the City of Fairfax, most of Fairfax County, and most of Prince William County.  The Towns of Herndon, Dumfries, Occoquan, and Vienna are located in the 11th District.
